Review of the Year 2018

As we approach the close of 2018, it’s perhaps time to take stock of the last twelve months of business. Whilst Brexit continues to create uncertainty in the UK economy, day-to-day business carries on. Enterprises continue to development and adapt. 24 years after we were formed, Pillar is no different. For us big projects like completing our first year as an employee-owned business, implementing a paperless office, increasing remote-working and ensuring both our back-office and software offerings were GDPR-ready have kept us busy.

Meanwhile, our infrastructure/works costing system Profess Roads Cost Manager has been selected by Aberdeen City Council, Hill House Quarry’s infrastructure unit and Stirling Council in the year. Alongside this the RCM Working Group has continued to invest in the product, with a range of additional features and imports funded and deployed in the year. Pillar lead the RCM Working Group alongside East Renfrewshire Council, Ayrshire Roads Alliance, Falkirk Council Estates & Roads sections, North Ayrshire Council and Leeds City Council.

Profess Time Manager has also enjoyed new deployment. London Borough of Enfield are just the latest of a number of Councils switching from Profess for Windows on-premise to the Cloud edition of Profess Time Manager.

In the meantime, work is well underway on the next new major version of Profess. In the mid to long-term this is targeted to replace both Profess for Windows and the current generation of Profess Time Manager. Follow our roadmap for all development projects ongoing and planned.

The Profess Place Portal has received significant investment from Falkirk Council’s Development directorate, extending its use across schools in Falkirk and funding new Survey functionality.

As the year comes to a close we have new builds of Time Manager, RCM and Place Portal all in hand.

We were also delighted that our Managing Director, Carl Spiby, was a finalist in the UK EOA 2018 Awards in the category of Employee Owner of the Year award. On the back of this Pillar were also invited to participate in a South West Business Insider magazine round-table discussion alongside delegates from the likes of Arup Global and solicitors Stephens-Scown. Watch out for the feature in the January 2019 edition of SW Business Insider which has a monthly circulation of 200,000.

2019 will see us move our service desk across to Jira which will integrate deeper into our new development environment. This gives us greater opportunity to increase our agility and improve the way we monitor and manage support tickets.

So, finally, thank you to all those clients who have renewed their trust in Pillar and Profess in 2018, and a big welcome to all those who have joined our community of users.
